Payment Providers – PayPal Connection via Zapier

With the following guide, you can sell your courses with PayPal. You will need a Mentortools course you want to sell, a PayPal business account, and a Zapier.com account (at least the Pro Plan).

How to Connect Mentortools with PayPal?

1. Access the Mentortools Zapier Template for PayPal

Open the following link for the Zapier platform and click on "Try this template."

In the next step, log in to your Zapier account. Please note that for PayPal, you need at least a Starter Plan account. Once you have successfully logged in, you will be redirected to this page to begin the setup:

Click on "Get Started."

2. Connect PayPal with Zapier

In the first step, you will be asked to connect your PayPal Business account. Follow the instructions, click on "Connect," and log in with your PayPal Business account. If you pay for Zapier with PayPal, the information may be retrieved automatically.

3. Connect Mentortools with Zapier

In the next step, log in to your Mentortools account (preferably in a separate window/browser tab).

Then, generate your API key within Mentortools. To do this, go to your "Settings," click on the sub-item "Payment Providers," and then create an API key:

Copy your API key to the clipboard. Then navigate back to Zapier and click on "Connect."

Then paste the API key into the Zapier dialogue form:

If you have done everything correctly, Zapier will show you a green checkmark. Then click on "Next."

4. Create the Connection Between PayPal and Mentortools

Access your PayPal product and create a test order for the product you want to sell with Mentortools. Then wait 2-3 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Click into the "Buyer email" field. Select "Payer Email" from the context menu. Important: You must first remove the default entry "test@mail.com." Repeat this step for Buyer First Name and Buyer Last Name.

If you have set up the email, first name, and last name correctly, the form will now look like this:

5. Determine the Course ID of Your Course

To do this, go back to your Mentortools account and navigate to the course overview and to the course you want to sell via PayPal:

Next to the title of your course, you will see an individual Course ID: Copy the Course ID to your clipboard. Then navigate back to the Zapier form and paste your individual Course ID.

You can usually leave the "Amount" field empty.

(Advanced: In the "Amount" field, you can also specify a number that reflects the number of installment payments in the product.)

Confirm by clicking the blue "Next" button once you have entered your Course ID.

For Advanced Users: Specify which PayPal sales release certain courses:

To do this, set the Course ID within the PayPal product and then select this ID as a field (you will find the fields further down in the selection).

6. Test the Connection

Zapier will then show you a short summary of your test data. Click on "Send Test." A new order should then be created within Mentortools.

Then click on "Next."

Note: It can take 1-2 minutes for your order to be created within Mentortools. If you do not see an order, you have probably entered the wrong Course ID. By clicking "Back," you can check all entries again.

7. Activate the Zap

In the final step, click on "Turn On Zap" so that future purchases within PayPal automatically create a course order within Mentortools.
